Paths

Installation, Underground casemate Gorlice on Vyšehrad in Prague Basalt, iron, mold melted glass, silver, moss 1997

Stone columns mark the limits of possibilities, which everybody sets up for himself herself on borderlines of his/her own imagination. The high columns carry goblets, which in the passing time slowly fill with our acts. Time and space here are interconnected in the closest way possible. All that which we meet and recognize is within the space outlined by us.

On the path there are three royal crowns as a temptation in our orientation, symbols of the desire for power and riches. And also somewhere along the path there is something which we vaguely anticipate – something for which we exist in the world. We walk the path, unwittingly looking for a faint meaning of life, invisible but still within reach, hidden under a fragile shell, but still under a lock. In the defined space there is a symbolic human dwelling as an area for concentration. It is a hexagon, which draws us into the
inside of its power full of passing energy with an urgency of an ancient recurring principle. Behind the dwelling there are gates to two worlds. It is possible to pass through the first gate. It is an exceptional moment on the path which can mean anything. Follows a gate built on a verge of a real abyss. Passing through this gate is possible only once.

At the beginning, a fire has been ignited. If we are able to plunge into the fire, we will get to another world which waits inside us to be discovered. All around float beautiful crystals, illuminating our path. Sometimes they are lightning bugs, other times good people. Path, Gorlice at Vyšehrad in Prague is a metaphor of a pilgrimage in life and its fulfillment in the space at the border of worlds. The underground hall Gorlice provided it with its magic of quiet contemplative damp reclusion, in which the contact with the outer world was naturally cut off, and thanks to the deep silence there emerge the information about the meaning of our existence hidden in our subconscious.
